NORTH RICHMOND CRACK

This song is (hopefully) my one and only attempt at Rap. I first wrote it in the early nineties after a series of earthquakes (Loma Prieta, Northridge, Kobe) made the news. My sometimes warped sense of humor compelled me to give this masterpiece a title that suggests different meanings.

You heard about the Hayward Fault
The San Andreas too
If y’all think they be movers and shakers
Have I got news for you
On the east side of the ‘Frisco bay
There’s a hole deep down in the mud
And when it starts to hump and bump
You better hold on to yo’ butt

North Richmond Crack, gonna shake yo’ shack
North Richmond Crack, gonna kick yo’ ass
North Richmond Crack, what the mo’ fo’s that?

You heard about Loma Prieta
Northridge and Kobe
Smashed a few building, flipped a few freeways
Made some folks run away
But they can’t hold a candle to
That little Richter kicker from the East Bay
‘cause when it starts to hump and bump
You better down get on yo’ knees and pray

North Richmond Crack, gonna shake your shack
North Richmond Crack, gonna kick yo’ ass
North Richmond Crack, what the mo’ fo’s that?

Now if yo' lyin’ in your bed at night
And you feel the earth start to move
It ain’t yo’ lover, significant other
Reachin’ over to be humpin’ you
It’s just that little hole so deep
In the east San Francisco Bay
It’s gonna open so wide, you gonna fall deep inside
Leave yo’ clothes left floatin’ on the bay

North Richmond Crack, gonna shake yo’ shack
North Richmond Crack, gonna kick yo’ ass
North Richmond Crack, what the mo’ fo’s that?
