In a troubled world, sometimes the unconditional love and trust given by one of God’s most beautiful creations gives one the hope and the courage to carry on. I’m referring to that most special of beings, the dog. Mollie was a cherished member of our family. She was a Sheltie-Pomeranian mix we took into our home when she was about a year old. She was with us for 15 years. She was always there for us, always loving us, asking for nothing in return, except maybe a bit of petting and food (especially pizza!). She succumbed to the ravages of old age, and we had to make the terrible decision to have her put to sleep on August 24, 2006. This song captures the emotions and torment associated with having to make that kind of decision.
Brown eyes, watching my every move
Warm eyes, so loving, faithful and true
Soft eyes, so trusting through the years
My eyes, are clouded with tears
Brown eyes, windows to your soul
Warm eyes, now dim as you’ve grown old
Soft eyes, hiding the pain
From my eyes, tears drop like rain
God forgive me for what I must do
It’s so hard, it’s so hard to see this through
You always gave your best and you were always there
The ending of your life is something I can’t bear
Brown eyes, closed forever today
Warm eyes, feel no more pain
Soft eyes, never see me again
To my eyes, my world’s at an end
To my eyes, my world’s at an end
